This presentation will focus on the medical specialties of speech pathology and audiology. When working within these setting, it is vital that interpreters understand and be familiar with the most common diagnoses and testing that occurs during such appointments. It is also vital that interpreters know the parts of the body that are impacted by these diagnoses and testing. Often interpreters are confused by these settings, so it is important to distinguish the difference in each setting and within each one. In addition, it is critical to be able to visualize the auditory system and know the various parts of this system. In order to perform the most accurate interpretation, the interpreter must be comfortable with a variety of classifiers that can be used to describe and represent this system.

Educational Objectives:
  1. Participants will be able to define common terms used in speech pathology vs. audiology.
