The Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) Certification is gaining momentum in the field of ASL-English interpreting by being incorporated into licensure laws and adopted as a state-level certification. The BEI distinguishes itself from other credentialing exams in a few different ways. This workshop will discuss the history of the BEI, the current iteration of the test, and highlight the format of the BEI.
Educational Objectives
- Participants will be able to describe the BEI format.
- Participants will be able to identify skills necessary for the subjective portion of the exam.
- Participants will be able to discuss sight translation practices as they relate to the BEI.
