Course Description:
Signing for the theater is a different style and presentation than signing for the classroom or conversationally. Interpreting theater also is a fine balance between expression and professionalism. This workshop, based upon the combined experience of Crom Saunders and Keith Wann’s theatrical interpreting résumés, is for those who would like to interpret for theatre, or to sign with “stage presence”. Crom Saunders and Keith Wann share techniques and ways to hone skills to be more expressive, developing a more streamlined portfolio of theatrical interpreting work. These techniques also help interpreters in other work environments in terms of clarity, role assignment, and reducing lag time.
Educational Objectives:
- Participants will demonstrate models and techniques for interpreting musical theatre
- Participants will represent different voice personalities, story/lyric concepts, characters more accurately
- Participants will be able to maintain the integrity of the musical material while translating it into clear and concise visual information
