This workshop deals with ethics in interpreting that focuses specifically on educational interpreting. Interpreters will learn how to transition smoothly into a classroom making teachers feel less anxiety about having an adult in their classroom. The participants will learn techniques that help transition into different classrooms and build a working relationship with other coworkers at the same time. The role of the interpreter is discussed in depth as well as how to approach others about our role. The goal is to become empowered as professionals starting from the basics “Dressing for success” and leading up to some of our biggest challenges like “Please do not interpret everything I say”.
Educational Objectives:
- Participants will be able to describe the role of the educational interpreter and how it differs from interpreters in other settings.
- Participants will be able to explain the interpreter’s role to other personnel within the educational setting.
- Participants will be able to provide responses to ethical scenarios within the educational setting.
