CEUs: 0.2 PS
Presenter: Dr. Steven Surrency
Presented in: Spoken English with Captions
Format: Archived Webinar
We all know those situations in which a CDI would be ideal: foreign clients, clients with Minimal Language Skills, and clients with Cognitive Limitations. However, often a CDI is not available. In this workshop we will explore 5 concrete skills that will help in dealing with these groups of clients: main idea identification, sign choice simplification, grammatical simplification, alternative framework creation, and collaborative meaning making. Concrete examples will be explored and hand-on practice will be provided for practice.
- Participants will be able to describe the types of Deaf clients that might require the services of a DI/CDI.
- Participants will be able to describe various techniques that can be used by an interpreter in the event a DI/CDI isn’t available.
- Participants will be able to apply these techniques to sample English texts when presented.
