Presented in: Written English

Format: Instructional Article

Interpreting in a sign to voice mode can be nerve wracking for any interpreter. Beyond comprehension is the additional responsibility to make the information accessible to hearing audiences who may be less experienced and less forgiving than Deaf consumers of interpreting services. This workshop will explore issues that impact an interpreter’s ability to produce natural sounding, culturally appropriate, and idiomatic English interpretations.

Educational Objectives:
  1. Participants will be able to identify unduly free, literal, and idiomatic interpretations when presented samples.
  2. Participants will be able to recognize direct and indirect address.
  3. Participants will be able to categorize 3 examples of formulaic language.
