There may be a time when an interpreter is called upon to provide expert witness testimony during a criminal or civil proceeding. In addition, interpreters could be required to submit to a voir dire by the court in order to determine suitability as proceedings interpreter. An interrogatory is a list of questions sent to an expert witness, which provides a starting point for attorneys to use in questioning their expert witness during depositions and courtroom testimony. The interrogatory may also serve to qualify you as an expert in your field. This course is a sample interrogatory with possible answers. Actual questions asked during an interrogatory may vary, but this is a good introduction to the process. In addition, this can be used to prepare for possible voir dire questions that could be asked on the performance portion of the RID SC:L exam.

Educational Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to describe the purposes and uses of an interrogatory within the legal system when presented in a list.
  2. Participants will be able to identify potential questions used during an interrogatory and recognize appropriate answers when presented.
  3. Participants will be able to recognize general knowledge questions versus specific knowledge questions and the purposes for both types of questions.
