During this interview with physician Lucia Roncalli, the interpreter will learn about the delicate nature of medical exams for asylum seekers and the ways in which the interpreter can best support communication. Vicarious trauma and self-care are discussed. The corresponding glossary contains 25 terms.
Educational Objectives:
- Participants will be able to understand the communication goals and needs of the medical provider when conducting a medical exam with asylum seekers.
- Participants will be able to identify strategies for self-care in which the interpreter can engage both during or outside the asylee medical exam encounter.
- Participants will be able to learn specialized medical terminology related to asylee medical exams.
