Working in healthcare settings is not an easy task. Some states allow novice level interpreters into doctors’ offices, hospital, and the operating room, which can create serious and lasting issues; Healthcare interpreting requires specific skills to positively contribute to the health literacy of Deaf patients. This workshop serves as an introduction to the specialty of healthcare interpreting, an overview of the ethics of the Demand-Control Schema, as well as sight translation techniques.
