This webinar examines ethical challenges in remote interpreting for ASL practitioners, focusing on Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) and Video Relay Service (VRS). We will discuss why VRI is often ineffective, how interpreters manage those limitations, and situations where professional ethics conflict with VRS/FCC regulations, exploring strategies for navigating these tensions.
Educational Objectives:
- Participants will be able to identify specific factors that commonly render VRI ineffective and describe practical strategies interpreters use to mitigate those limitations.
- Participants will be able to analyze situations in which ethical standards conflict with VRS/FCC rules and regulations.
- Participants will be able to apply ethical decision-making frameworks to resolve or manage conflicts between professional codes of conduct and regulatory requirements in remote interpreting settings.
