The mentoring of interpreters is a critical part of professional development for many interpreters and is often challenging. As a mentor, it is imperative that one possesses both interpreting skills and mentoring skills so that the learning process is successful. Mentoring can be done in several capacities, but often starts out during a period of an internship or upon entering the field of interpreting. During this presentation, various mentoring techniques will be described and examples of mentoring approaches will be provided. In addition, the presenters will provide a variety of ways that a mentor can effectively support their mentee including. but not limited to, establishing goals, agreement of expectations, and the timeline of the mentoring process.

- Participants will be able to explain discussion techniques needed throughout the mentoring process.
