As training programs for medical interpreters continue to gain momentum, code of ethics are introduced as an expectation for guiding daily practice. In this video, Therese Mirande, a certified medical interpreter and a member of the committee that developed the NCIHC Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, goes beyond basics to present 5 scenarios with ethical dilemmas for participants to consider.She walks participants through the 5 steps of the decision-making process for each scenario. Ms. Mirande reviews how to “scrub” details from an encounter in order to maintain confidentiality.
