CEUs: 0.05 PS/Ethics
Presenter:Michelle Scott, Thérèse Mirande
Presented in: Spoken English
Format: Instructional Video
This is an Instructional Video by VoicesACADEMY. This was developed for both spoken and sign language interpreters.
This video is the second in a 3-part “Advanced Ethics” series. As training programs for medical interpreters continue to gain momentum, code of ethics are introduced as an expectation for guiding daily practice. In this video, Therese Mirande, a certified medical interpreter and a member of the committee that developed the NCIHC Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, goes beyond basics to examine aspects of self-awareness and cultural identity that form the
basis for ethical decision-making. Viewers are encouraged to engage in conversations about the concepts presented in the online forum on VoicesACADEMY.com. Ms. Mirande reviews how to “scrub” details from an encounter in order to maintain confidentiality.
Educational Objectives:
- Participants will be able to examine qualities of self-awareness.
- Participants will be able to understand vectors of cultural identity.
