As a medical interpreter there are common phrases that occur regularly. These phrases occur during intake, interviews, history and physical questions, follow-up visits and a number of other routine situations. This workshop will discuss some of the common phrases and interpreting strategies, as well as the ramifications of misinterpretation.
Educational Objectives:
- Participants will be able to analyze a variety of phrases frequently seen in the medical setting and be able to determine the intention of the speaker, both implicit and explicit.
- Participants will be able to produce several equivalent interpretation options for specific phrases when presented sample texts.
- Participants will be able to discuss and identify specific strategies that can be utilized when encountering more complex or obscure phrases.
