This webinar provides participants with a brief overview of the timeline for Deaf mental health history’s timeline, selected psychological theories, and clinical interventions based on the theories. Each theory and intervention and the implementation are based on the therapist’s preferences as well as the client’s presentation. The clinical goals and objectives of the theories will be discussed and clarified during this webinar.

Educational Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to identify and describe the changes in mental health service provision to Deaf/hard-of-hearing individual.
  2. Participants will be able to explain various theories related to psychology that impact the psychiatric setting with Deaf/HOH patients.
  3. Participants will be able to describe potential therapeutic interventions used by therapists when treating a Deaf/HOH patient.
  4. Participants will be able to analyze the mental health interpreter’s role and possible conflicts within the therapeutic relationship.
