CEUs: 0.075 PS

Presenter: Dr. Miako Rankin

Presented in: ASL with an interpreted voice-over

Format: Instructional Video

This is an Instructional Video by GURIEC/NCIEC.

Using a cognitive linguistics framework for communication, this presentation looks at the process of communication as it relates to an interpreted event.  Effective communication is a difficult process and the introduction of an interpreter into the process confounds it even more.  We will look at the impact of an interpreter on communication and aspects of the communication process that will effect the interpretation.

Educational Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to identify aspects of the translation process impacted by form and by meaning.
  2. Participants will be able to provide rationale for considering form/meaning relationships in translation decisions.
  3. Participants will be able to analyze source and target texts to determine form/meaning based “sticking points”.
