The concept of culture has been a part of the interpreting field since its inception. The field of anthropology has heavily influenced the concept of culture and many of the definitions within the interpreting field. This presentation will explore some of the history of anthology and the perspectives on culture throughout its history and how these have impacted the field of interpreting.
Educational Objectives:
- Participants will be able to describe the social constructs of the field of anthropology at its inception and its effects on the perspective of culture.
- Participants will be able to explain the US opposition to early British definition of culture and the debate surrounding it.
- Participants will be able to describe some of the current anthropological approaches to understanding and defining culture.
