This course will focus on the ethics of interpretive choices. Most ethics courses focus on what to do in various situations. They rarely discuss the ethical implications of various interpretive linguistics choices. This course will focus on how the way that you sign, fingerspell, or explain can have great ethical implications. The workshop will become a roundtable for discussing the ethical implications such interpretive decisions.
Educational Objectives:
- Participants will be able to identify situations in which interpretive choices present great ethical challenges.
- Participants will be able to construct various solutions for these ethical dilemmas and determine the best course of action.
- Participants will be able to describe the process of ethical decision making.
