Using a cognitive linguistics approach to language, Dr. Villanueva looks at the process of communication. Effective communication is a vital part of the interpreting process but this process can be affected by a number of factors. This workshop analyzes the relationship between form and meaning as well as how these factors impact language, communication and, ultimately, interpretation.
Educational Objectives:
- Participants will be able to explain the relationship between form & meaning at multiple linguistic levels.
- Participants will be able to provide examples of how changes in form are linked to changes in meaning.
- Participants will be able to describe the goal of communication and the impact of linguistic packaging.
