We have all heard the old adage “You need experience to get work and you need work to get experience”. Legal interpreting sometimes feels like that. So, you have attended a few workshops and read a couple of books, what now? How does someone start legal interpreting? What types of situations are appropriate to get your legal feet wet? In this webinar we will explore entry level legal interpreting assignments, discuss quasi-legal situations, look at an overview of the criminal and civil systems, and a variety of other issues that impact legal interpreting.
Educational Objectives:
- Participants will be able to identify types of activities outside of the legal arena that have legal implications.
- Participants will be able to explain reasons interpreters may be hesitant to interpret in legal settings.
- Participants will be able to describe the process that interpreters should utilize to determine readiness for legal interpreting.
