CEUs: 0.2 PS
Presenter: Ivan Jarama
Presented in: ASL
Format: Archived Webinar
In sports, numbers are everywhere, such as, jersey numbers, game scores, time left, player stats, and more. In American Sign Language (ASL), number incorporation allows signers to combine numbers naturally into specific signs, making communication faster and more fluid. This webinar will teach participants how to use number incorporation within sports-related vocabulary. We will cover key signs that incorporate numbers, demonstrate how to sign scores, rankings, time, and player information, and give practice exercises to build fluency. Whether you’re an ASL student, interpreter, or sports fan, this session will help you sign about sports with clarity and accuracy.
Educational Objectives:
- Participants will be able to define number incorporation and explain how it is used in ASL.
- Participants will be able to identify and demonstrate ASL signs that incorporate numbers in sports contexts.
- Participants will be able to sign sports-related numbers clearly, including scores, periods, jersey numbers, and time.
- Participants will be able to use classifiers, spatial referencing, and facial expressions to give context when signing sports events.
- Participants will be able to build a working vocabulary of sports terms with and without number incorporation for real-world conversations or interpreting situations.
