In this interview, Hoda Shawky describes her role as a Pediatric Nurse Practioner in an outpatient clinical setting. Across the age spectrum, from infants to teens, Ms. Shawky discusses her communication strategies with patients and parents. Immunizations and common pediatric health problems are reviewed.

Educational Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to understand the role and communication goals of a clinician treating pediatric patients in an outpatient setting.
  2. Participants will be able to learn terminology related to common pediatric health encounters.
  3. Participants will be able to identify specific opportunities for interpretrers to utilize their role as conduits and culture brokers to improve communication.
