In this course, participants will become familiar with important concepts in morphology. They will first examine English morphology and apply the concepts they learn to their own interpretations. They will then examine ASL morphology and take a deeper look at how morphological structures and processes occur in ASL. This is not a workshop in which participants simply learn definitions, they will complete the course with concrete skills that they can apply to their work.

Educational Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to identify and define features and process of English morphology.
  2. Participants will be able to identify and define features and process of ASL morphology.
  3. Participants will be able to modify ASL-to-English and ASL-to-English interpretations based on morphological analysis.
  4. Participants will be able to explain sign choice and word choice using appropriate linguistic terminology.
